THE DAY

What the day actually looks like.

At first glance, Green Vision looks like an electronics recycling operation. Look closer, and the recycling is the setting for something bigger: a hands-on environment where adults with developmental disabilities build skills, confidence, and independence they carry into the rest of life.

Employment Related Skills

Alongside trained staff, participants build focus, task sequencing, safety awareness, communication, and routine through hands-on electronics recycling. Progress is tracked and paced to each person.

Wellness & Fitness

Guided movement, cardio, and outdoor activity are built into the day — supporting stamina, healthy routines, and confidence.

Community Inclusion

Supported, practical experiences connected to the day: recycling pickups, supply trips, and interacting with the public during drop-offs.

Social Connection & Belonging

Daily chances to build real relationships with peers and staff — through shared routines, conversation, and time alongside the same familiar faces. For a lot of participants, this is where friendships form.

Why Families Choose Green Vision

A real environment, not busywork.

The day has built-in structure and purpose because the recycling operation is real. Every task has a clear beginning, middle, and end — and a reason it matters.

Built around the person.

Goals, pace, and support are individualized. An ISP describes someone on paper; here, we get to know who they actually are. The traits some programs treat as obstacles are met with curiosity and respect, not redirected into something more convenient.

Known by name.

This is a place where people are supported, familiar, and part of something — not a number filling a daytime slot.

Who Lafayette may be a good fit for

Green Vision may be a good fit for adults 21+ who benefit from structure, repetition, clear routines, hands-on activities, staff support, and opportunities for daily social connection.

Participants do not need to arrive with prior recycling experience. The goal is to meet each person where they are, build confidence over time, and support progress at their own pace.

"Green Vision has given Patrick something truly meaningful — purpose. It's given him friendships, camaraderie, and the confidence that comes from knowing he has a role, a routine, and people who count on him. He wakes up every morning with somewhere to be and something to be proud of. That's everything."

  • Green Vision is approved to provide services with Behavioral Acuity. All medical and behavioral support needs are reviewed individually with the support coordinator, family or guardian, and planning team to determine safety, staffing, and fit before services begin.

  • After a tour, Green Vision can talk with the family, support coordinator, and planning team about possible fit and next steps. If the program may be appropriate, the support coordinator and planning team coordinate service details before a start date is discussed.

I am a:

Come see the day in motion.

The best way to understand Green Vision is to walk through it. Bring your family member, ask questions, and see if it feels right. Most families know within the first ten minutes.

For a lot of families, the hardest part comes after school ends.

When school-based support ends, the structure, routine, and daily purpose that helped someone grow can disappear almost overnight. Green Vision was built for what comes next — a real place to go, real skills to build, and people who notice when you're not there.

Green Vision was founded in 2010 by Tim Butler, a special education teacher who spent years watching his students graduate with nowhere to go. Since then, we've given adults with developmental disabilities a day with structure, meaning, and room to grow.
